Rock Climbing


This activity begins at the expedition center in Petrohué where we will select our climbing gear and other necessary equipment for the adventure.

Approximately 4 km. from Petrohué there is a natural climbing wall of basalt rock situated right next to the Petrohué River. The wall offers many sport climbing routes with different levels of difficulty. After your introduction to the wall, the technical equipment and safety climbing instructions, our goal is trying the various routes on the wall.

Personal Equipment:
• Athletic clothing and shoes
• Sunblock

Terms and Conditions:
• Climbing excursions include specialized bilingual guide, harness, helmet, ropes and all the necessary technical equipment, picnic lunch, transportation to and from the site.
• EXPEDICIONES PETROHUÉ reserves the right to alter and/or change the schedules and itineraries of the above mentioned programs, consequence of climatic conditions, circumstances concerning the company and/or decisions made by the guide in charge concerning the security and wellbeing of any person of the group or the group itself.

Climb Volcano Osorno


This full-day expedition takes you to the summit of the perfectly conical, snow capped Volcano Osorno.  From this high vantage point, you will be treated to a magnificent, 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including volcanoes Calbuco, Tronador, Puntiagudo, and Casablanca, as well as lakes Todos Los Santos, Llanquihue, Puyehue, and Rupanco.

We depart at 5:30 am from the expedition center with a 40 minute drive to our starting point, La Burbuja mountain shelter, at the base of the volcano.  In the first segment we hike up a steep volcanic ash slope to El Enlace, where the glacier begins at 2,100 meters.  Here, we will outfit ourselves with all the necessary equipment for ice climbing (crampons, harness, ice tool).  After roping up with our guide, we begin our trek up the glacier to the summit.  The final approach includes an climbing an ice slope whose steepness ranges between 40-50 degrees.

At the summit we’ll admire the outstanding views and enjoy a picnic lunch.  The descent to the shelter takes approximately 3 hours.

Requirements: No prior mountain climbing experience is necessary, but participants must be in good physical condition.
